Comprehensive Curriculum and Knowledge Areas

In the Private Kindergarten classroom, our degreed teacher leads a small group of learners. With nationally recognized, research-based curricula, your child will build a strong foundation and be prepared for first grade. Learning is a mix of independent and teacher-led experiences. Along the way, we measure your child development across these five key knowledge areas:

Language & Literacy

Letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and literacy comprehension are explored, either through independent activity or through group instruction (both large and small). Your child will learn about story concepts; discover how words are made; work on their own writing; learn how print works; how to express ideas; and how to expand their vocabulary.

Math

There are five different methods of math instruction: whole group instruction; collaborative learning; small group instruction; adaptive learning; and independent practice. Teachers use real-life comparisons to bring math concepts to life. These experiences help your child to strengthen their critical thinking and their problem-solving skills.

Social Studies

Getting to know the world around you is a great way to learn something new. These lessons explore concepts of time and places, and how to be respectful of others. Personal experiences and family stories and traditions all inform the learning experiences.

Science

In this section, children learn how to use the scientific method, how to observe local weather patterns, and how to describe patterns over time. In addition, we’ll learn about our environment and make discoveries about different animals and plants.

Self-Help & Social Skills

Many important skills make a child school-ready. These include holding a pencil with a proper grip; using scissors to cut pre-formed shapes; recognizing and following classroom routines and procedures; understanding another point of view; showing the ability to resolve conflicts; how to both follow directions and work independently; and being able to respect the rights of others.
